Million Solar Roof Initiative
Of course, the US Department of Energy has been engaged for the past twenty years in trying to get the private industry to go the solar Energy way, and its main motivating efforts have been to provide free education on solar platforms and also teach how best to install such platforms in buildings, homes as well as on power plants. The response was, as expected, less than encouraging though now that the problem with oil shortages and climate change has come to the forefront, even private industry will realize the need to use alternative sources of energy.
What's more, Congress that provides the US Department of Energy with its funds is less than pleased with how alternative Energy resources are being tapped, and politicians are also becoming engaged in the topic of massive greenhouse gases being generated by the US, which has led Congress to whip the US Department of Energy into doing something more about renewable energy.
On its part, the US Department of Energy and its Million Solar Panels Initiative is aimed at reducing the amount of greenhouse gases being produced in the country, and if it succeeds in this grand plan of having a million solar platforms in the country, the US Department of Energy will have helped save much pollution being caused to the country's environment to the tune of emissions given out by as many as, it is believed, eight hundred thousand automobiles in a single year.
However to make the Million Solar Panels Initiative a success, this program needs to also have an economic component and after Congress issued huge tax credits for individuals and also businesses that bought solar platforms, there is added incentive to switch over to solar energy. And, the state of California led the way with its 3.2 billion dollar rebate program, and the federal government too has joined in by providing loans for solar platforms as a component of mortgage packages with Fannie Mae and FHA also a part of such efforts.
