Planning Ahead for the Parents You Love

The second thing that parents often notice is the loneliness they feel in an empty home. On one hand it's nice to have a place for children to sleep when they come for visits, but on the other hand a bunch of empty rooms only compounds the feeling of being alone.
And the third thing that parents tend to notice is that living along can even become dangerous if physical movement or overall health begin to deteriorate.
Despite all these trials, many parents resist encouragement to move to a retirement home. If they have a cramped and smelly facility in mind I wouldn't blame them, but retirement homes have actually improved substantially over the past several years so that many even seem like upscale hotels.
The first thing to consider when you search for one of these choice facilities is the environment. After all, ice, snow and cold weather do not go well with fragile bones and weary footsteps. Consequently, I would recommend retirement homes in a warmer climate. For example, a Mesa, Arizona retirement home would be situated in a warm and dry climate that discourages reparatory diseases like pneumonia where residents could enjoy beautiful landscaping year round without lifting a finger. And, if you find a retirement home that provided spacious rooms, private dining areas and recreational activities, they could be free from confinement and loneliness as well.
If you could guarantee the same kind of privacy, space, cleanliness, and independence that your parents enjoyed at home in addition to room service, medical care, social interaction, flexible transportation and dining services, don't you think they would be a little more open to the idea?
These kinds of facilities exist, but they do cost more than the cramped and smelly retirement homes that most people think of when their children recommend alternate living accommodations. This means you should prepare in advance to take care of your aging parents. They met all your needs while grew up. Perhaps it's time to return the favor.
