Troubled teens come in a variety of packages and not every program is right for every troubled teen. It is important to select the right one for your child. Some of the programs available include the following:
1. Behavior modification programs. These are great programs for teens who suffer from emotional or social behavior issues. Behavior modification programs are centered around promoting and rewarding good behavior and confronting inappropriate behavior head on. They are usually good for parents who want to have their teen close by. They have been known to help troubled teens in many circumstances.
2. Outpatient therapy programs. These are primarily used as tools for individual, group, or family counseling, and substance abuse issues. These are also some what short and are considered very effective. One negative aspect is that they are not specifically designed to help troubled teens with severe emotional or psychiatric problems.
3. Day treatment programs. Day treatment programs are used if outpatient therapy programs are unsuccessful. These can help troubled teens who have emotional or psychiatric problems. The difference between day treatment programs and behavior modification programs is that these are not full time residential services. This kind of program is for troubled teens that are in between behavior modification needs.
4. Wilderness programs. These are highly effective programs that offer flexibility in the amount of time the teen stays. They are usually run by counselors with master's and doctorate degrees and create an environment away from urban distractions to help troubled teens make a stronger connection with their inner self. They are considered a great alternative to boot camps and are an excellent choice for almost any troubled teen.
These are only a few of the programs offered for helping troubled teens. There are other programs that can offer different angles to help troubled teens in a variety of ways. Parents who are not sure about which program is right for their troubled teen should do a little research about all the various programs offered.
