One thing to keep in mind is that every state has different requirements for obtaining your license, so while you can find helpful information on the web you will need to do your due diligence in finding and verifying the specific requirements for yourself. Most often you will find real estate licensing information from your states Real Estate Commission Board, however, some states may have you go through the Department of Licensing for details and the application process. If you are having trouble finding the information you need, consider consulting a real estate agent in your area, as they have already been through the process and would be able to give you some tips and pointers along the way.
Why Should You Become a Real Estate Agent:
Real estate is a pretty exciting, commission based career that will keep you on the edge of your seat for years to come. The fast-paced environment combined with high dollar sales makes for salesman's playground. Agents commissions are typically very high and property sales are only limited by the amount of effort you are willing to put forward. Devoted agents with an established customer base often make six figures a year which as you well know is more than enough to support any family with a very comfortable lifestyle.
You may not believe my yet, but as I have already mentioned becoming a real estate agent really is not very difficult, the requirements and education are straight forward and the turn around time is rather quick. Aside from that, should you stop and compare your time and money invested on obtaining your real estate license to the potential yearly income that agents can make in this industry, you will soon realize that the positives far out weigh anything negative. Sure there are risks involved, there are risks involved with everything we do in life, but chances are that if you work hard and stick with it you will have nothing to worry about. As if the perks mentioned were not enough, real estate agents typically have the ability to set their own hours and work outside of the office if its more convenient for their schedules. Agents are in a position of meeting great new people and helping them to make their dreams a reality just as you will do by becoming a real estate agent.
What Does it Take to Become a Real Estate Agent:
One thing to remember is that all real estate agents, regardless of the state, are required by law to have a real estate license when they are doing business. I know it seems a bit odd to point that out but so many "agents" try to beat the system by working without a license and the if caught the penalties may be substantial. Getting your real estate license can get costly depending on the state you live in, some states require college credits while others require a certain amount of hours in real estate courses, just another reason to verify requirements before committing yourself to moving forward. Below I have gone ahead and put together a some what typical list of requirements most states have for obtaining your license but be sure to check with your state for any additional requirements:
1. Applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of application
2. Applicants must have successfully completed High school or equivalent(GED)
3. All applicants must successfully complete their pre licensing classroom hours in a state accredited real estate school
4. Applicants are required to complete a licensing application and submit any required licensing fees
5. You must successfully complete the real estate license exam with a score of 75 or better
6. Applicants must successfully complete any post-licensing classroom hours within a specified period of time after receiving their license
Use the list as above as a general guideline as what to expect when working towards your license. Again, depending on your state the requirements will vary, but I wish you all the best of luck on your journey to become a real estate agent.
