The benefits of going cold turkey is that it will help get the excessive nicotine out of your system fairly quickly. However, the drawback is that the withdrawal symptoms can be pretty severe and intense, as well as the physical discomfort that goes with this. Most people will find themselves craving for cigarette within a short period of time. When this happens, one should consider using some of those quit smoking aids to help control these intense cravings.
Will Quit Smoking Aids Really Help Me?
The good news for most smokers is that most quit smoking aids seem to produce good results, even those that are sold over the counter at your local pharmacy store. Most of them are very affordable and reasonably priced; easy to use, and have minimal side effects.
One of the more popular quit smoking aids is the nicotine replacement therapy, also known as NRT. This aid can come in the form of a spray, patch, gum or inhaler. How these products work is that it allows nicotine to enter into your system over a period of time, which then helps reduce your cravings for a cigarette. The one big benefit that these NRTs have is that it only contains nicotine. Unlike cigarettes, which contains thousands of poisonous and/or carcinogenic chemicals. Additionally, the secondhand smoke that comes from a cigarette is extremely hazardous to those people who are near a smoker. Especially children.
Through your doctor, you may order other various quit smoking aids products. Most of these products are considered mild antidepressants. They work by calming and relaxing you, there by decreasing your craving for another cigarette. Some of these products may have more severe side effects then the products you would order from over the counter, thus they should be taken under a doctor's supervision.
The end result is that you want to quit smoking permanently. Right? Whether you go cold turkey completely or use the help of some quit smoking aids or both, you want to quit this nasty habit permanently. The first piece of advice is to consult your family doctor and follow through with your doctor's suggestions. The second piece of advice is to consult with someone who has successfully kicked the smoking habit. Ask them lots of questions and lean of them for support if necessary. After all, they've been there done that, so they know exactly what you're going through.
