Hair loss may be a problem plaguing not only men but women too. For this reason there are many herbal remedies for hair loss available in the market. This article provides information for the different types of herbal products.
Black cohosh:
The scientific name of black cohosh is Acteae racemosa. This is a phytoestrogen herb relieving disorders pertaining to menopause in women. An example is thinning of hair resulting from the decrease in estrogen levels in the ovaries.
Dong quai:
Dong quai is also called Angelica sinensis, which has the same action as that of black cohosh.
Gotu kola:
This is an herb that promotes growth of hair and fortifies collagen as well as blood vessels in the scalp. In addition, it purifies the blood while stimulates circulation of blood all over the scalp and brain. It also rejuvenates the hair follicles improving the strength and texture of hair.
Horsetail:
Also called Equisetum arvense, an excellent source of silica. This mineral maintains the strength of hair and also makes the hair shiny and sleek.
Licorice Extract:
This product prevents hair loss but should be avoided by pregnant women because of adverse effects it may cause to the baby in the womb.
Nettle root:
It inhibits the enzymes 5-alpha reductase, which causes dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and aromatasem, which is responsible for the synthesis of estrogen.
Pumpkin:
Also called Cucurbita maxima, which is herbal oil extracted from pumpkin seeds. This contains delta-7-sterine, the active ingredient that vies with DHT thus decreasing the levels of hair loss. The potency of this herbal remedy is still under scientific investigation.
Rosemary:
The scientific name of rosemary is Rosmarinus officinalis. The oil extracted from rosemary contains antioxidants making it an effective remedy for stimulating hair growth. Moreover, it cures dandruff that can induce hair loss.
Saw palmetto:
This is also called Serenoa repens that prevents dihydrotestosterone, one of the most common causes of androgenic alopecia. The process is that tinctures extracted from the herb block the receptors on cell membranes for DHT. Its action is like the action of finasteride that is an FDA approved medicine for hair loss.
Siberian Ginseng:
Also called Eleutherococcus senticosus, an herb rich in mineral that lowers stress and helps keep kidneys healthy. In addition, it helps restore the growth of hair in women.
All of these herbal remedies will help combat hair loss. To find the best product, you can experiment on the different herbal remedies but it must be done under the supervision of your physician.
