A phenomenon of sorts, autographed art actually encompasses a huge assortment of media. Almost anything that you can think of will fit in this classification. Posters, paintings, pictures, photos, purses....as you can see the rules can really be flexible. Autographed art is some object that can be said to have some legitimate value and is signed by someone of import or someone connected with the item. Such as a model rocket signed by John Glenn could technically be said to be a work of art, as well as a Photo signed by rocker Bon Jovi. However, we tend to look at art as also being something which was created to have an effect on someone. One way collectors tend to state things is by saying that art is something which you can be moved by. There are many reasons that people would search these objects out and the most common one is that they want to feel part of that person's life or experience.

One thing to consider is what types of autographed art are the most popular with collectors. This is not an easy question. But, generally speaking the categories that are the most popular are paintings, animated cels from movies, and other things that we generally associate quickly with the word art. With these types of objects the creator's signature being on them adds an even greater provenance or authenticity so people are very willing to pay premium prices for them.

Autographed art is a huge market and the most popular things that are wanted and looked for are art objects that have a value in and of them, and do not depend upon the signature of someone to make them valuable. For instance a small poster done by Andy Warhol is valuable and his signature would most definitely increase the value, but the value of the poster as an object of art would be there with or without the signature. This is actually a case to point one other thing out as well. If a famous Holly wood star whose autograph ordinarily fetched $200 were to sign his name on the Warhol poster, in many cases, if not all, the value of the poster would be diminished. This is due to the fact that the signature had nothing to do with the piece of art.

There are again an abundance of unsavory characters who would love to part avid collectors from their money, and this collecting field has more than its share. People are parted very quickly from their dollars when they hurry to buy what they perceive to be a bargain. The best advice for a collector is to heed the old adage, "if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.' Autographed Art is one of the most productive hobbies that you can start doing. Not only does it provide you with a centre piece to talk with your friends about; but it also provides you with a profitable resource for the future.
