5. Self secured containers using your own lock.
6. Containers arrive and depart from a chosen location without the need for driving.
Advantages of the Door-to-Door Container System
The Door-to-Door container system is one of the two most popular types of moving containers, along with PODS. While there are similarities to both, here are some advantages this system has over PODS:
1. Smaller more manageable containers (being only 5x7x8).
2. Ease of placement
3. Ability to place on slight inclines.
Disadvantages of Using Door-to-Door Containers
While the Door-to-Door container system does have advantages over PODS, there are a few disadvantages as well.
1. There is only one size container available.
2. The containers are not as well insulated.
3. The containers are shipped by standard shipping methods as bulk freight.
4. These containers are only available in the Midwest and Central regions of the US.
Advantages of a PODS Container
PODS are the other major player in the personal moving container field. There are some advantages which PODS has over the Door-to-Door system.
1. PODS has more size options with ranges from 5x7x8 up to 8x8x12.
2. PODS are moved by company trucks equipped to move them.
3. PODS are available in more locations and have more storage facilities.
Disadvantages of a PODS Container
There are some of the disadvantages PODS have when comparing their operation to the Door-to-Door system.
1. Indoor storage costs more than the open air option and more than Door-to-Door.
2. PODS can be difficult to position at the location.
3. PODS may require permits or zoning clearance because of their size.
4. PODS can not be placed on an incline or unleveled surface.
While each system has both advantages and disadvantages, in overall use PODS can be a better option over Door-to-Door for the range of services offered along with availability. Door-to-Door has the better price and cost per container along with portability and placement. Depending on what your need is, either system can be utilized for a good self-service moving option.
