It isn't always easy being a lawyer, there are multiple expectations, hundreds of cases you will never want to take and a lot of unknowns left for you to decipher. Gathering new clients can be the trickiest part of the whole process. What are your clients expecting from you? How do you help them? And what can you do to re-assure them? Are all questions a good lawyer should ask themselves before a prospective client walks in.

A client is looking for someone to trust and someone who is going to fight for them. Not all clients are full of virtue and good will towards money, some of them have legitimate cases that need defending and others are just looking for a 'free' buck or two at someone else's expense. One of lawyers
responsibilities are to distinguish and weed out those people looking to money and not justice. It can be a really hard job because many of these people have very convincing stories. Research and questioning though are imperative before any case ever reaches a courtroom, lawyers should weed out the phony cases not judges.

Another duty of a lawyer is to look for a ways to innovate how they defend their clients. Once a lawyer has determined a client has a legitimate case it is their job to gather the facts and present them in a way that the courts can view and hear and feel compassionate toward. Although courts are based off the laws of the land the people in the courts are still human and emotion is a leader in a lot of decisions. Lawyers are acting in proxy for their client and so defend a client how you would want to be defended.

Lastly, a lawyer needs to realize that once they have a found a client they feel they can adequately defend they need to be as open and honest with that client as possible.

A lawyer's main advertising is his or her reputation and by word of mouth. If you are honest with your client, letting them know upfront things like your plan of attack, concerns you have and of course what you are going to charge to perform this labor your clients will then in turn do your advertising for you. However if you try to hide charges, information or concerns your clients will scar your name up down the streets. If your clients don't trust you their friends and neighbors won't either, and with out that vital trust you will be done as lawyer.

The law is more than just rule books and facts; it is people, emotions and problems. Lawyers can easily get caught up in the rules and facts and forget to deal with the most essential part of the law... The people the law effects.
