Campaigning For Mediocrity - The Death Of All Dreams

Even in the midst of serious distress, people throw away their time arguing against solutions than they do giving them a go. It is mind-boggling to see someone in a challenging situation ask for advice, only to rebut the advice with more compelling and creative reasons as to why it won't work. This is a psychological 'blind spot' I call "Campaigning For Mediocrity".
It comes from fear of failure and is so powerful that the person doesn't realize they're doing it. They actually believe what they are saying.
These beliefs can be the result of years of disappointment, lack of confidence and lack of personal power, often beginning in childhood. Patterns of thinking can become so familiar to us that they are like old friends and we do not challenge the wisdom of what they are telling us.
What we say to ourselves is very important. Our self-talk can rob us of confidence and blind us to the possibilities that are really open to us. A mind focused on failure looks at why something can't be done instead of how it can work successfully, and as a result, the person usually gets what they're focusing on...further "proving" their point.
You get what you focus on. So, if you are focusing on all the things that are wrong, the obstacles and disadvantages, you are going to experience a lot of difficulty and failure in your life. To turn failure into success, you have to break this cycle.
All change begins in the mind. Success in any area of life begins with believing that improvement is possible. You have to believe that your life can get a lot better in any area and that you can be, do and have more.
Before you can change your thoughts, you need to know what they are. Most of us listen to mental chatter without stopping to question the messages that we are being given. The thing is, if we want to change our mindsets so that we can change our lives then we have to first pay attention to what we are thinking, saying and doing.
What thoughts are you listening to? What are you saying to others about your life? Are you campaigning for mediocrity and settling in life or are you self empowered and successful?
Have you allowed the fear of your current circumstances to paralyze you and prevent you from taking actions to improve things? Our habitual thoughts lead to habitual actions and our habits will make us and break us.
You have probably heard the old saying: "Sow a thought, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny." This is true. What we think, leads to what we do and what we do creates our lives into the future.
Mediocre thinking will lead to a mediocre life. Our thoughts are our constant companions, communicating with us all the time. If we choose to collaborate with mediocrity, our lives will be filled with frustration.
However, if we retrain our thinking so our self-talk is positive then our thoughts can become our success coaches encouraging us to take the actions that will lead to success.
Of course, retraining our mind can be easier said than done. Some people need support and guidance in the process; others are fine on their own.
One way to 'discover' your hidden thoughts and beliefs is to talk to a friend, mentor or coach about the things that are holding you back. Someone on the outside of you can sometimes more easily see what's going on inside you. If they are honest with you and you're open to hearing the truth, you'll be able to see what beliefs are holding you back.
