Forgetfulness isn't only for the aging, though. How many of us wish that we could enhance memory, regardless of age? For example, having an excellent memory is a great boon to any career, particularly one in which you work with the public. If you can remember the names of clients that you have met only once or twice, studies show that sale increase and overall communication is improved. Everyone likes to feel recognized and appreciated. Or how about students who need to study for an exam at school and being able to remember all of the study material the first time round to decrease the amount of time needed for studying right before the exam.
There are a number of different techniques you can start using today to improve memory of names of people, including breaking up the name into smaller syllables and then associating each syllable with a different visual image. For example, using this simple technique above, a client who goes by the name of 'Mrs. Hendrickson' could be associated (and only in your mind, of course) with an image of a hen drinking water. Once you have a visual link established, it is often very easy to remember this association. It also helps if you visualize something that is humorous and funny.
Here's another easy tip to you can use to enhance your memory - apparently, it has been shown that the more muscles you use to learn something new, the more likely you are to understand and remember it. For example, If you only use your eyes - if you are reading something once over, for example - you are relativley unlikely to have really learned it or remember it in it's entirety. If you read the same text out loud, you are slightly more likely to remember, because you used more muscles. If you are studying for a test or exam and you need to remember a large body of information, the best advice is this - write out what you are studying. When you write, many muscles are involved, and the information is much more likely to really be remembered.
It is always worth your while to enhance your memory, whether you are a student, a professional, or an older adult. These and other techniques available should help you to effectively enhance memory in fairly short order. The payoff, other than enhanced memory, is that people generally stay younger for longer if they are mentally active and have a strong interest in life.
