One big mistake which we generally do it when we use this command Come! is when it cannot be enforced. This makes your dog, not to obey this command, as you are the one who taught him to make a choice. Now it is up to him, to decide whether he wants obey the command or not.
Never give him an option. Just say Come and your dog should be on his way towards you. The thumb rules comes into picture only after the adult dog who is about 2yrs old is tested in many different kinds of distractions. This is arule to be followed for life for many.
Another big mistake is when you called your dog to come and then try to discipline him or even punished. Most of the time kids to this, so you have tell them, that they shouldn’t be doing this to their loved pet. When you see your dog doing something wrong, go to him immediately and chasten him. It is late to correct him even if you are late by sixty seconds. And in case you are very angry with him, do not say Come. Because by the tone of your voice he will know that he should not come to you. In this case you are actually spoiling him.
Always make it a point to give the command Come while he is running towards you happily or if he is a few steps ahead of you on leash, then you can always direct him towards you. He has to be called by his name till he is grown up and has become smarter. Appreciate him, when he abides to your commands and runs towards you.
It is an unfortunate fact, but when your dog is not feeling well, they do not have the ability to come right out and tell you unlike what a human does. Nor are they like the young child who can cry whenever they are feeling discomfort or are hurting in some manner. The only way you have to determine whether or not your animal is feeling well is to monitor the animals behavior.
Your body language also has to adhere to his obedience, so when he obeys your command and comes towards you, you have to welcome it by kneeling down, with a smiling face and your arms wide open. As he comes towards you, you can even slowly run in the opposite direction, and when he chases you, just stop and give him the command Come, is a very pleasant and encouraging tone. He will just love it.
Your pet has to be given enough time to relax and take rest after his training. As it was a wonderful experience for him, he will slowly start enjoying it. So, give your pet a simple treat, and enjoy some wonderful time playing together. You can play the game tug-a-war with him or throw a ball outside and ask him to get it for you. Give your dog a lot of kisses, snuggles and hugs.
