The beast medical care in the world would be useless if a person or patient cannot or would not follow through due to forgetfulness. It was found that adults who imagined how they would test their blood sugar were more likely to do these tests on a regular basis than those who used other memory techniques. Creative approaches like these need to be developed as this requires less conscious effort than other memory methods. Participants in the age group 60 to 80 were told to monitor their blood sugar four times a day even though they were not diabetic and were not allowed to use timers, alarms or other devices to remind them.
The group was divided into three groups out of which one was told to imagine what they would be doing the next day, another group was made to rehearse the instructions loudly and the third group was asked to write down the pros and cons of testing for blood sugar. In the next 3 weeks participants in the first group who were told to imagine the process tend to remember to test their blood sugar more than the other two.
