A Family Project: Building A Cornhole Set

Many families today look for things that they can do together. This is especially true of father-son projects, but this is certainly not the only family grouping that people are interested in when it comes to building or doing something together. Mothers and daughters, whole families, and almost any combination of relatives or friends might be looking for a project that they could complete and enjoy together. Because of this, they look through many options, trying to find something that they can enjoy building, but that they can also enjoy after it is built. One of the best choices for something like this would be the Cornhole game. For people who have not heard of this game, they might know it under the name of the bean bag game or the bean bag toss, as these are also common names for it. There are generally some differences, but some people play the very same game and just call it by something else. It is mostly up to personal preference and where in the country one lives, as the name can vary by location.

In order to build a Cornhole set, there are some specific things needed, and there are some options. Some people buy the board and make the bags, some buy the bags and make the board, and some make the entire set. There are instructions for making something like this on the Internet, so finding out how to create it is not difficult. Another advantage to this is that there are not many tools needed, and the people who want to make the set do not need a high degree of skill. Basic woodworking tools and abilities are all that is required, and most people have these or can get them quite easily. This also allows children to help without getting injured, and this helps to ensure more family fun time without risk of danger. Working with wood can always cause injury, but the simpler parts of the project can still be handled by the younger generation, and they can also help to make the Cornhole bags. In the past, these bags used to be stuffed with corn, but they are now usually stuffed with either dried beans or plastic pellets – with the pellets being the most common.

The bags are made of durable cloth such as denim, and they can be sewn on a machine or by hand. This allows for options for individuals who do not own sewing machines, but young children should be careful if they are helping to sew, so that they do not prick their fingers. The bags can be filled, and then the last part of the bag can be sewn shut by hand, so that the filling does not come out. Once the bags are done and the board is made and sanded and coated to protect it from the elements, it can be set up in the backyard or another open area, and the whole family can enjoy both the sense of accomplishment and the fun of the game.
