Much of the historic areas of Nice date back as far as the 17th century. Make sure not to miss out on the Palais Lascaris, the Cathedrale de Sainte Reparate and the buildings that are part of the Monastere Notre Dame de Cimiez. You can also visit the interesting Basilique Notre Dame and the Cathedrale Orthodoxe Russe St Nicolas. The Phoenix Parc Floral de Nice is the city's stunning botanical gardens.
Make sure to walk around Nice's Old Port. It is surrounded by beautiful buildings from the 18th century period and is filled with stunning yachts. Outside of Nice, but well worth a visit is the Fort du Mont Alban. This 16th century fort presents an example of French military architecture. It also offers beautiful views of the area. A number of traditional villages can be found around Nice that are lovely to wander through.
There are many museums and galleries to be found in Nice. Examples of these are the Human Paleontology Museum, the Archeological Museum and the Regional Museum of Asian Arts. The Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts is a must see for art lovers.
The biggest attractions of Nice, however, are its long stretches of beautiful pebbly beaches. It also boasts approximately 15 private beaches where sun chairs can be hired. Nice is the perfect destination to consider is you are looking for a holiday where you can sunbathe, dip in the sea or enjoy water sports such as waterskiing, parascending or jet-skiing. Many people are put off by the pebbles on the beaches and find them somewhat uncomfortable, although they may brave the pebbles in order to go for a swim in the stunning blue water. The private beaches have often added a layer of sand on top of the pebbles. The Promenade of the English lines the Mediterranean coast of the Bay of Angels. The six kilometer boulevard dates back around 200 hundred years and is famous for its excellent views.
Hotels are the most popular accommodation options in Nice. You can find low budget hotels, mid range hotels and luxury hotels. The more expensive hotels tend to be closer to the sea due to their stunning views, while the cheaper hotels can be found more inland. Around the train station is where you are likely to find the hostels and cheaper hotels. The hostels tend to be somewhat rowdy so if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday, these may not be the place for you. You can also stay at Nice's campsite. Nice is most popular during the summer months and tourist accommodation tends to book up long in advance. In order to avoid disappointment, make sure that you book sleeping arrangements for your trip long before you travel.
