“First of all, you couldn’t waste time even if you tried. Actually, time will waste you if you don’t utilize it properly. And as to advice on practical matters like finances and other seemingly mundane things, let me assure you, those things spring from the deeper parts of your being. They are only a reflection of where you have been and of who you are. Fix the internal thinking processes first and all the external worldly things fall into place.”

“I understand all that. ‘Think and Grow Rich,’ ‘You Create your Own Reality,’ ‘As a Man Thinketh’ and dozens of others. Lovely sayings, of course, but to put them to work in your life is, most times, more easily said than done.”

“But it can be done and is being done by many people today. It’s just a matter of following some simple rules.” “Gideon,” I finally said, “I’m really not interested in philosophy or concepts today. As a mental exercise,I imagine these thing scan be fun. But I’m more concerned with the practicalities of everyday life, not with a lot of pie-in-the-sky philosophies.”

“That’s why I’m here,” he said, pulling a little, black notebook from his pocket. “Let’s see what we have. Yes, the schedule shows we will meet again soon. Perhaps you will understand more by then.”

“Listen, Gideon, I do like and appreciate you, but I’m tired of spending time on all these esoteric subjects. You don’t have to raise two children and earn a living, all at the same time.”

“First of all,” he said as he stood up, “you don’t have to spend time, you only have to spend thoughts. And secondly, you do not raise children. They are not crops or livestock. You just have to love them, teach them and lead by example. We’ll go into more of this later. I must leave now.”

Gideon smiled and walked to the door. As he opened it and left, all I could say was, “See you soon.” And then he was gone. I went back to the table and finished my coffee. Then I went upstairs to see what the children were doing.
