“You’re darn right,” I interjected, forgetting my resolve to shut up and listen. “Nothing changed. Or, to be more correct, the more things changed, the more they stayed the same.”

He pretended not to hear and continued. “Whenever you became very tired or desperate or frustrated, you set up so many energy blocks around you that you couldn’t hear nor see the guidance that was always available. You knew in your head that your problem was not raising money but raising consciousness. You knew in your head, but you didn’t know it in your heart. You have seen the connection enough times to remember the old saying, ‘It’s not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord.’ What you needed wasn’t money, you just needed ideas. One good idea could bring you all the money you would ever need. When you’re worried or troubled, your anxiety blocks the flow of creative ideas. You then survive at the circumference of life, instead of living at the center of your being.”

He paused for a moment and I took the opportunity to ask, “Is this what’s been happening all this time?”

Marla replied while Gideon took a sip of his coffee. “In a way, John. In a manner of speaking that’s what you were doing, but it isn’t the entire story. Bean seeds grow very quickly, produce their crop, then wither away in one season. Redwood trees take much longer to grow, but they last for centuries. Both come from little seeds and both have their place in the larger scheme of things. Because of your nature and because of agreements you’ve made with yourself at some of the highest levels of your being, you decided not to grow bean plants. Instead, you planted redwood seeds. If you plant redwood seeds, you get redwood trees. It seems like it took forever, but they’ve finally grown into magnificent, giant trees and the time for resting in their lovely shade is here.”
