Astronomy is a fascinating subject. You only have to look in an astronomy book or online on NASA's website, and now you have a lot of images of the Universe. This can be great, and gives you much information about the objects in space, but it doesn't give you the wow factor, as if you owned a telescope of your own.
Buying a telescope to view the heavens is an amazing purchase. I can't think of any other investment which brings so much, apart from the internet. Like how online, you can go anywhere; find anything - owning a telescope gives you the same access.
So, you buy a telescope, and now have a telescope. What kind of things can you do with it, apart from simply pointing it up at the sky? A telescope is a scientific instrument, and one which is available to you. The simplest object to look at is the Moon.
Looking at our Moon is simply an amazing sight. As the Moon goes through its phases, as it appears on Earth, you get to see many different things. Craters become very apparent, and many other parts. The detail is simply amazing, even with a small telescope.
People, who buy telescopes, do several things with the use of their telescopes. For example, some will buy a telescope, and use it for a lifetime, while others may dabble with astronomy, and yet others will look and then leave it for a period of time, and then come back to it.
The beauty of buying telescopes is that you can either get deep into astronomy or look occasionally. Either way, when you buy a telescope, you have access to space. This access allows you for example to look at a comet when it passes by the Earth. Though this is a rare phenomenon, it is still handy to have a telescope when such phenomena happen.
There are some things to be warned about, about telescopes. A telescope must never be used to look at the Sun. Instant and permanent damage happens, so please be warned. This applies also to eclipses. Viewing the Sun is possible, but only with specially designed eye pieces that are solely designed for its use.
Overall, buying a telescope does give you many benefits. It allows you to view the heavens, and you can decide how much you want to invest in astronomy. You can look every night; you can look once a year.
Owning a telescope makes this all possible, and considering that you can buy a good telescope for a few hundred dollars, it is a bargain that will give enjoyment for years.
