However, a true horoscope, not one that is found in the newspaper or online, is a work of precision, as technical as schematics, and as revealing as an X-ray. As much a masterpiece of art as it is that of science, a completely, professionally crafted horoscope is a magnificent combination of mathematical, astronomical and temporal information which allows you to gain an understanding of your true personality.
Though astrology has never met the standards of modern day science, nor have its results been reproducible, nearly every culture throughout time has relied on the advice and knowledge of astrologers and people who study the stars. Throughout history, cultures have carefully built their societies around the positions of the Sun, Moon, stars, and the planets. Just take a look at the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the temples built by the Mayans and the Aztecs, as well as the Cradle of Civilization in the Middle East.
For many, horoscopes are only a superstition, with relationships between your personality and time of birth nothing but a mere coincidence, if not down right ridiculous. However, astrology has been practiced for thousands of years from cultures as diverse as the Ancient Aztecs to China. However, today, the most popular and common system of astrology is that of the Greeks, who used shapes in the stars to represent figures from ancient myths and legends.
The two most important aspects of your horoscope are the Sun Sign and Rising Sun. Most likely you are familiar with your Sun Sign which is determined by the position of the sun with a specific constellation. Synonymous with the Zodiac signs, the Sun signs are as follows: Aries (The Ram), Taurus (The Bull), Gemini (The Twins), Cancer (The Crab), Leo (The Lion), Virgo (The Virgin), Libra (The Scale), Scorpio (The Scorpion), Sagittarius (The Centaur), Capricorn (The Sea-goat), Aquarius (The Pitcher), Pisces (The Fish). These sun sings usually fall on the months of the Zodiac calendar, which is not equivalent to the regular calendar months.
Most experts opposed to the science behind astrology believe that it is highly unlikely that all people of the same sun sign can share the same personality traits. For example people who are born with the sun sign Aires are assertive, impulsive, and sometimes selfish, where as people who are born with the sun sign Cancer are tenacious, sensitive, and sometimes clinging.
So, does this mean that people with the sun sign Cancer can't be impulsive? However, believers in the astrology would argue that this arises from people's perception of the daily horoscopes that they see in the newspaper. Many of the variables are considered in a complete horoscope. Many people now now have free daily horoscopes emailed to them daily.
