As we all now that book cover design is very important for the overall appearance of the book. Not only for the book cover designers are aware of this, but also for everyone in the book publishing industry are also relies about this importance. You can imagine that no matter how good the content of the book it is, but if that book has no interesting and attractive cover, then it could not draw reader’s attention, then the book can not be sold and never success. However, in the modern era and it seems that all of the books has turned to digital format and someone have mentioned that the paper book will be faded out and completely disappear in the next ten years. In fact, I personally believe that the time of paper book will never end and the book cover design still be one of the major influence for the reader’s decision making.

The are, for example, front cover, spine, back cover etc. and we will talk about how these element is and how its important to the reader and overall appearance of the book.

Firstly, let’s start with front cover. Front cover is the first place that the reader will see and differentiate the book from other books. Front cover also determine the appreciation of the book and decide whether reader will come and pick up the book to see. Normally, the front cover consist of the title, subtitle and author but there may be some other part that publisher want to add more in order to grab reader’s attention such as testimonial about eh book. These day, it is likely that some important element of front cover such as title and description are less important than the material, colour and appearance. Many of designers try to design by using good material and catchy color to attract readers and pay less attention to the title and other element on the front cover. However, it may depend on the type of the book that requires different style of front cover presentation.

The other element of the book that also important is the spine. Type of binding may not effect tot the image or overall appearance of the book. But the format and material of spine is very important to the quality of the book. Which means that if the book has poor pine or binding, it will become damage every easily and reader will have bad experience about the book. Using poor binding is a very risky for the reputation of the book, especially if the book written by famous writer so it is very important for publisher to consider about this. Imagine that what do you feel if the book Harry Potter just tare of and losing from its binding within few days after you just bought it!! It can be concluded that every detail of the book are important and none of this detail should be ignored no matter what type of the book it is.
