The apparent purpose of the site is to give college students several guides for writing authored by experienced writing consultants (denoted by pencil icons), along with many links to other great writing resources on the web.
I chose this site because I am constantly looking for ways to improve my writing, and this site also has several links for ESL learners, which my current school has a population of 25%. Thus, I love the links for the ESL learners.
The content of the site is very accurate and the utilities are important, specific, and easy to locate. The following topics are included in the welcome page of the site:
academic essay, avoiding plagiarism, critical thinking, the writing process, writing your research, citing and documenting your sources, grammar and usage, for ESL learners, and personal and professional writing, theses and dissertations, and writing in your courses.
Further, when you click on ESL learners, for example, it takes you to a plethora of great articles on this topic. One really caught my eye entitled. "Learn English Online" This sub link has activities for a child to actually practice learning English. It is wonderful Activities include vocabulary, sentencing, and a wide variety of graphic aided fun problems for kids just learning English.
The navigation and use of the site is very user friendly, and the overall appeal of the site is very professional Navigation is almost effortless Articles and links are clearly marked and easily identified I would rate the site a "ten" on a one to ten scale.
I would utilize this site to better myself as a writer and as a source for my ESL students to utilize to learn English. I found the following specific articles at the website to better myself as a writer:
*The Everyday Writer (Bedford/St Martin' s)
*Writing Techniques Handbook (University of Illinois)
*Writer's Handbook (University of Wisconsin)
*Resources for Writers and Writing Instructions (Rutgers U)
*The Nuts & Bolts of College Writing (Michael Harvey-Editor)
*Interactive Grammar Review
*Grammar Handbook (University of Illinois at Urbana)
Does anyone think I am excited about utilizing this newfound site!? I most certainly am! I so desire to continue to improve my writing, taking it to the next level, and I will utilize the articles to become a better writer in my current publishing and beyond.
I believe grades one to four would most benefit from this website. Why? It has a ton of activities and articles to help students learn how to read. All parents of ESL learners would benefit from this site, as well as all ESL students themselves.
I have a high degree of excitement for this site, and If I were you I'd spread the word to my friends, parents, and colleagues-immediately about this site that can help improve writing at any level.
